EVERY CAN COUNTS PRESENTS THE FIRST ‘GREEN CAN AWARDS’

GREEN CAN AWARDEight organisations have been recognised for going the extra mile when it comes to drink can recycling, with the presentation of the first  ‘Green Can Awards’ by leading drinks can recycling programme Every Can Counts.

The ‘Green Can Award’ winners were shortlisted by a panel of experts against key performance indicators, with an onus on going above and beyond the call of duty to encourage responsible waste disposal and improve recycling uptake in their organisation.

The eight winners span the length and breadth of the country and include a wide range of organisations, large and small, commercial and voluntary, who have all used the programme to further their recycling and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. They are ENCON Construction in Cardiff, Castle Manor Academy in Haverhill, Helston Athletic Football Club in Cornwall, The Salutation Hotel in Perth, Thistles Shopping Centre in Stirling, Morgan Sindall plc in Motherwell, Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh, and the Cheshire Army Cadet Force.

Rick Hindley, Executive Director of Every Can Counts, commented: “The Green Can Award is our way of championing businesses and organisations that have really excelled when it comes to drinks can recycling. We’ve been extremely impressed by the range of organisations that are using the programme and the quality of entrants.

I would like to congratulate all eight winners who used the programme in a variety of ways, but with the common objective of raising recycling awareness amongst their supporters, members, employees and customers.”

“Through Every Can Counts we help numerous organisations to introduce or improve recycling and achieve results to be proud of. Passion and awareness of recycling is so important, and we hope the ‘Green Can Awards’ will not only help to acknowledge outstanding recycling efforts, but that our winners provide an inspiration to others too and are a goal to work towards all year round.”

Launched in 2009, Every Can Counts is a partnership between drinks can manufacturers, leading brands and the recycling industry, focusing on increasing the number of drinks cans recycled in workplaces or by people when they are ’on the go’. The programme now has 1,729 member businesses, and has installed more than 10,000 can recycling points nationwide.

Following on from the success of the 2014 awards, Every Can Counts has launched two rounds of the Green Can Awards in 2015 and is now calling for nominations for the May 2015 deadline. www.everycancounts.co.uk/businesses/green-can-awards/
