‘Foil in love with recycling’

‘Foil in love with recycling’ is a fully-funded campaign offered to councils that are either introducing aluminium foil into their kerbside recycling service, would like help tackling contamination issues or would simply like to improve the capture rate of foil.   Since 2017 the campaign has been deployed in 21 local authority areas and communicated to 3 million households.

Research undertaken by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) through their annual Recycling Tracker survey (2018), indicates that a quarter of residents surveyed put aluminium foil into their general waste bin, even though it is collected for recycling by their council.   There is an opportunity to vastly improve the capture rate of this valuable material and to end the confusion surrounding its recyclability.

Annually each household in the UK uses approximately 182 foil trays and 144 metres of wrapping foil.
