Alupro campaign asks secondary school students to create their future

Alupro has launched a new educational campaign to help KS4 pupils further improve their knowledge about best practice recycling. From April, schools across the UK will be invited to participate in the ‘Create Your Future’ initiative, which aims to bring resource efficiency into the classroom in a fun and engaging way.

Comprising a series of lesson plans and associated resources, the campaign positions aluminium and steel as materials of choice for a diverse range of packaging applications and explains how best to separate them for recycling. Supporting teaching notes, curriculum links and challenge sheets will be available to download from the Learning Aluminium website.

As part of the programme, pupils will be challenged to design the packaging for a new beauty product and write a Radio/TV advert to highlight its environmental performance. Harnessing their creativity, insight and knowledge to create a solution with 100% recyclability firmly in mind, the most captivating entries will win a £100 gift voucher for an outlet of their choice.

Tom Giddings, executive director of Alupro, commented: “Over the past few years, demand for our educational resources has gone through the roof, with sustainability now an absolute mainstay of the national curriculum. While we already offer resources to KS2 and KS3 age groups, it felt like the perfect time to expand our reach to KS4 pupils too.

“Developed in partnership with an experienced KS4 teacher, Create Your Future aims to increase knowledge about sustainable packaging materials and best practice recycling behaviours. At Alupro, we believe that the younger generations are key to unlocking the ever-increasing recycling rates of tomorrow and it’s our responsibility to improve education about the role of permanent materials in the packaging industry of the future.

“Create Your Future is the latest in a long line of educational initiatives created by Alupro to make recycling more appealing to school pupils. We hope that our comprehensive learning resources make it easy for teachers to integrate recycling into the curriculum and fun for pupils to participate in!”
