Alupro announces project to discover the real aluminium packaging recycling figure

Following concern expressed by Alupro about the suitability of the Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) system for recording aluminium packaging recycling it has commissioned a research project to reveal the real recycling rate.

Alupro advocates streamlining the reprocessor/exporter accreditation system and reducing the administrative burden with the aim of capturing the true amount of aluminium packaging recycled in the UK or exported for recycling. Read more

Alupro Statement on Q1 PRN Data for Aluminium

Quarter 1 data for Aluminium Packaging highlights the need for an overhaul of the PRN system, says Alupro Executive Director Rick Hindley.

Packaging waste recovery data released by the Environment Agency for the first quarter of 2015 shows that reported aluminium packaging recycling is significantly below the levels required to achieve the 2015 target. Whilst 100% packaging is above the figure reported in Q1 2014, the tonnage reported for aluminium packaging recovered from incinerator bottom ash (IBA) is significantly below the level we know has been recycled or exported.
